Zarbof. everyone is gone... seriously they all just scattered to the winds and are not checking the forum any more. the server is still working but it seems like no one is using it.

so, regardless of the lagginess... why is the server still operational if no one is using it? flyingscottsman is hosting an empty server??? that really makes no sense...

yah wix im playing different games aka csgo but also attempting to focus more on school Minecraft is kinda dead for me beacuse this seemed to be the last good server with a good community. ALl the other ones are like HUNGER GAMES! AND FACTIONS AND DONATE $20 FOR OWNER RANK

yeah thats about right lol. so many pay to win servers out there.
my brother and I just got banned from this server called lichcraft because he told the server owner that it was "pay2win" lol
thats a first ban for me.
anyway theres not really many good servers out there but if you want to drop by some time ive moved to another enjin server at ip: slicecrafter.com
they have a skyblock and a survival server, but there are also donator ranks with special priveleges that frustrate the economy like everywhere else. some derps play there, but also some good fun players too.
i'm also hitting school alot harder myself right now. trying to graduate some time in the next year. glad to hear you are doing well. i can't believe blocko is still operational lol. someone is getting paid to host an empty server. i think scott forgot to cancel his subscription.

hey Zarbof. since you and I seem to be the only ones using this forum any more... what do you think it takes to make a good successful server that can attract a lot of players and provide a fun and fair environment for all types of players? I'm trying to think of how to make MC fun again. i would want to attract redstone addicts, survivalists, pvpers, kids, adults, respectful people who know that if they abuse the rules then they are going to be handled swiftly. new players constantly coming in to test the waters and find out how fair and how fun the server might be, and finding out sooner than later. griefers will come of course. griefers will fail. i would want to attract donators to pay for the server but also enabling free players to not feel underpriveleged.
of course you would need a dedicated and talented group of staff members, but beyond that... the problems that arise in these servers that we both described as "pay2win"... alot of these servers have an economy that eventually runs its course and people end up with tons of diamonds... no body likes when servers get reset, but how do you update to the latest version without resetting the world?
also how do you pay for such a server without offering donator rank sales? and how do you prevent a small group of people from turning the economy upside down (therefor requiring a server reset and new economy rules), using the very same priveleges that you sold them? how do you still hold those priveleges to be valuable enough to sell after you are finished nerfing them?
one very successful option I have seen is to implement a lottery item allocation to encourage votes on a skyblock server, and to just put straight game cash for votes in a survival server. the plugins are tricky to get them to work, but they successfully bring in the votes that it takes to expand your playerbase.
it seems to me that while resource intensive, the logblock plugin is an invaluable addition to any server when it comes to settling griefer disputes and identifying troublemakers. otherwise even the most lawful staff members become midnight opportunists to get back at whoever they suspect last got back at them. things have been getting messy fast on slicecraft just because we have no logblock.
on survival servers it seems that claimed land can get out of hand for inactive players. if you allow more land to be accumulated for time played, then eventually a very active and addicted player will leave the game, and leave large chunks of unbuildable claimed pieces of land that no one can ever use again... hopefully not too close to spawn. a land allocation technique that worked very well (until recent hackers ruined spawn) on mcbans official server, is to have a pricetag for upkeep. this would make sure that inactive players who hold a plot of land would eventually run out of money on that land and it would become free to pillage at some point. the server lives on! ... so the question is how steep do you make that price, and you just need to give your players a method of making money on the server. some sort of in-server minigames or daily contests that can continue playing even when no admins are online... such as a king of the hill type gold tower glaiming income system that was also in place on mcbans... or chestshops. votes are always a must if you want your playerbase to grow as it always should be.
this server (blocko) was great, but the playerbase dwindled to nothing because there was no advertising... hence the critical need for votes and voting incentives.
So Zarbof, I'm not sure if your head is still in this game as much as it once was but I'm interested to hear your thoughts on it. how do you establish a fun and fair MC environment for all types of players while avoiding it being labeled "pay2win" ?
